Description
The Capitol Police Internship Program 2025 provides students and recent graduates with a unique opportunity to gain insight into law enforcement operations within the nation’s capital. Interns will support the United States Capitol Police (USCP) in its mission to protect Congress, its members, visitors, and staff while maintaining the safety and security of the Capitol complex. Through this program, interns will learn about police procedures, security strategies, and public safety initiatives in a high-stakes environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist Capitol Police officers in various aspects of day-to-day operations, including patrolling, traffic control, and visitor management.
- Conduct research on law enforcement policies, public safety regulations, and best practices in security operations.
- Support data entry, record-keeping, and documentation related to Capitol security and law enforcement activities.
- Observe and participate in training exercises and safety drills to gain a firsthand understanding of Capitol Police protocols.
- Contribute to public outreach initiatives, assisting in community education and awareness efforts on Capitol security.
- Attend briefings and meetings with Capitol Police officers to gain insight into real-world law enforcement challenges.
- Perform other assigned duties to support the operational needs of the United States Capitol Police.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or a recent graduate with an interest in criminal justice, political science, public administration, or related fields.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances.
- Strong interest in law enforcement, public safety, or government operations.
Experience
- Prior experience in a law enforcement, public safety, or government role is beneficial but not required.
- Familiarity with criminal justice concepts, policy research, or security protocols is an advantage.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
