The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) is offering a dynamic internship opportunity for graduate students interested in law enforcement, data analytics, criminal investigations, cybercrime, and public safety. The USPIS Internship Graduate Program is designed to provide hands-on experience in supporting and advancing the security and efficiency of the nation's postal services. Interns will work alongside seasoned postal inspectors and other professionals to assist in a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining public trust and protecting postal service users from crime.
As a graduate intern at USPIS, you will be expected to:
- Support investigative teams in the collection, analysis, and documentation of evidence for criminal investigations.
- Conduct research on criminal trends impacting postal services, including mail theft, fraud, and cybercrime.
- Assist in creating and maintaining databases, ensuring data accuracy and security.
- Work on special projects related to crime prevention, public safety, and postal operations.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings and support the development of strategies for reducing postal-related crime.
- Develop reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
- Assist in community outreach efforts to promote public awareness of USPS safety initiatives.
- Current enrollment in a Master’s or Doctoral program in Criminal Justice, Law, Public Administration, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Strong interest in federal law enforcement, investigations, or cybersecurity is preferred.
- Prior internship or work experience in law enforcement, cybersecurity, criminal investigations, data analysis, or public administration is advantageous.
- Experience with data collection, research, and report writing is desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data and identify patterns or trends relevant to postal crimes.
- Communication Skills: Proficient in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey findings to a non-technical audience.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis tools such as SPSS, R, Python, or SQL is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and thoroughness in work.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive and creative in addressing challenges or limitations within investigations.
