Responsibilities

As an intern with the Army Corps of Engineers, you will have the opportunity to work on projects that directly impact the nation’s infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and defense operations. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assisting engineers in planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects such as dams, bridges, roads, and water treatment facilities.
  • Participating in site evaluations, environmental assessments, and data collection for ongoing projects.
  • Supporting project teams by preparing reports, conducting research, and reviewing project documents and technical specifications.
  • Assisting with water resources management, including flood control, irrigation, and environmental restoration initiatives.
  • Using software tools to assist in the design and analysis of engineering systems and structures.
  • Participating in field visits to project sites, gaining hands-on experience with construction, site surveys, and environmental monitoring.
  • Attending seminars, workshops, and other professional development events related to engineering, environmental science, and the mission of the Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Collaborating with engineers and project managers to resolve technical challenges and enhance project outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Must be available to work full-time during the summer of 2025.
  • U.S. citizenship is required (as many projects are government-related).
  • Strong academic background and interest in contributing to national infrastructure projects.
Experience
  • Previous internship, volunteer, or coursework experience in engineering, environmental science, or construction management is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) and project management tools is a benefit.
  • Experience working in a team environment and participating in collaborative projects is desirable.
Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and work effectively on a team.
