Description

Bristol City Council is excited to offer Internship Graduate Training Apprenticeships for 2025, providing an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience and training in local government operations. This apprenticeship is designed to develop future leaders for the public sector by providing exposure to a wide range of council services and operations. Apprentices will receive professional development through structured learning, mentorship, and real-world projects, preparing them for a successful career in local government or public administration.

Responsibilities
  • Support and assist with the day-to-day operations of various departments within Bristol City Council, including community services, planning, public health, transport, and education.
  • Work closely with senior staff to help plan, implement, and evaluate local projects that benefit the city and its residents.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of council services, ensuring they meet the needs of local communities.
  • Analyze data and contribute to policy development, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist with the coordination of events, meetings, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support to departments, including preparing documents, responding to queries, and managing schedules.
  • Learn about financial planning, budget management, and project tracking.
  • Shadow experienced professionals, contributing ideas and insights to improve council processes.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops designed to develop leadership and management skills.
  • Contribute to ongoing initiatives to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and customer service within the council.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a 2:2 degree in any subject (or equivalent qualification).
  • A strong interest in working within local government or public services.
  • A commitment to supporting the city of Bristol and its residents.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (Grades A-C or 4-9) are desirable but not essential.
Experience
  • Previous work experience is not essential, but any internships, voluntary roles, or part-time work in public services, administration, or customer service is advantageous.
  • A proactive approach to learning and a willingness to take on new challenges is essential.
Skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other basic office software.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures and maintain high standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • A passion for public service and a commitment to supporting local communities.
