The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is offering an exciting opportunity for students to join its internship program in 2025. The internship aims to provide valuable experience and insight into the work of the CMA, the UK’s primary competition regulator. Interns will gain practical experience in competition and consumer protection law, policy analysis, and enforcement. Responsibilities
  • Assist with conducting research and analysis on competition issues, market dynamics, and consumer protection.
  • Support the evaluation and assessment of cases involving antitrust violations, mergers, and market investigations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, briefs, and presentations for senior CMA staff.
  • Help with data collection and analysis to support investigations and policy initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of market studies and competition assessments.
  • Work closely with legal and economic teams to support ongoing projects and investigations.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in competition and consumer protection regulations and laws.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of public consultations and policy documents.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support, including document management and preparation for casework.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in law, economics, business, public policy, or a related field.
  • Strong academic background with a genuine interest in competition law, economic policy, and market regulation.
  • Students in their second or penultimate year of study are encouraged to apply.
Experience
  • Prior experience in law, economics, policy analysis, or research is advantageous but not required.
  • Previous internships, academic projects, or volunteer work related to competition law, economics, or public policy are beneficial.
  • No specific professional experience is required, but a strong willingness to learn and contribute is essential.
Skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and legal documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and findings clearly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute effectively to group efforts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic familiarity with data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines.
  • A keen interest in competition law and public policy, and a commitment to upholding consumer protection standards.
