Description

The FDA is offering a unique internship opportunity for undergraduate students in the Tanning Department for the summer of 2025. This internship is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in regulatory science, public health, and policy-making related to the tanning industry. Interns will have the chance to contribute to ongoing projects, assist in research, and engage with experts in regulatory affairs, public health, and product safety. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in public health, regulatory science, or government service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing regulations and guidelines related to the tanning industry, including sunless tanning products and tanning beds.
  • Support the development and review of public health materials related to tanning safety, including educational resources for consumers and industry professionals.
  • Conduct research on current trends, regulatory frameworks, and emerging health concerns related to tanning and UV exposure.
  • Help prepare reports and summaries based on research findings, including data from studies on tanning and its effects on public health.
  • Assist in drafting policy recommendations or updates for the tanning industry.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with FDA staff on relevant projects and initiatives.
  • Support the FDA’s efforts to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations within the tanning industry.
  • Provide general administrative assistance, including scheduling, data entry, and managing correspondence related to tanning department projects.
  • Attend and contribute to educational workshops, training, and webinars on public health, safety regulations, and related topics.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited institution, preferably in fields such as Public Health, Regulatory Affairs, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong academic standing with a passion for public health and safety regulations.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required for federal internships.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time internship during the summer of 2025 .
Experience
  • Previous internship experience or coursework related to public health, regulatory science, environmental science, or a similar field is preferred but not required.
  • Any experience or exposure to policy-making processes, healthcare, or regulatory environments is a plus.
Skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and communicate findings clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic data analysis tools.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Interest in the tanning industry, UV safety, or public health regulation is a plus.
