As an Accounting Intern at Genesee & Wyoming, your key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of financial reports, statements, and records.
- Supporting the reconciliation of accounts and resolving discrepancies in financial data.
- Helping with journal entries, month-end close processes, and general ledger updates.
- Assisting with the preparation of financial analyses and reports to support management decision-making.
- Participating in the development and improvement of financial reporting processes.
- Performing data entry and managing accounting documents and records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assisting in accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.

- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field at an accredited university or college.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework in accounting or finance.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Availability for a full-time, summer internship (approximately 40 hours per week).
- Previous internship experience in accounting or finance is preferred but not required.
- Any experience with accounting software or Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is a plus.
- Participation in extracurricular activities or student organizations related to business or finance is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (knowledge of pivot tables, formulas, and financial functions is a plus).
