The GTR Internship & Apprenticeship Programme offers an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to start their careers in the railway industry. Through a combination of hands-on training, classroom-based learning, and mentorship, you will gain valuable experience in a wide range of roles within GTR, one of the largest railway operators in the UK. This programme is designed to develop your skills and knowledge, preparing you for a successful career in the transport and rail sectors.

Responsibilities
  • On-the-job training: Gain real-world experience by working alongside experienced professionals in various operational, customer service, and technical roles.
  • Learning and development: Participate in structured learning modules designed to provide a solid foundation in rail operations, safety, customer service, and technical skills.
  • Mentorship: Receive guidance and support from experienced mentors to help you develop and progress within the organisation.
  • Cross-departmental exposure: Rotate through different departments, such as engineering, operations, customer service, and administration, to gain a broad understanding of GTR’s operations.
  • Workplace skills development: Build essential workplace skills, including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and leadership.
  • Health and safety: Understand and adhere to all safety regulations and procedures within the railway industry to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Qualifications
  • Education: A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English and Mathematics.
    • For apprenticeships, A-Levels or vocational qualifications in relevant fields are desirable but not required.
  • Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
  • Age: Open to individuals aged 16 or older.
Experience
  • Desirable: Previous work experience, part-time jobs, or voluntary work that demonstrates a strong work ethic and commitment to learning.
  • No prior rail experience required: This programme is designed for individuals looking to start their careers, regardless of prior industry experience.
