The Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the airport operations, logistics, customer service, and transportation sectors. This program aims to provide interns with a deeper understanding of the aviation industry and enhance their professional skills while working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Interns will be assigned to various departments within the airport, with responsibilities tailored to their area of interest and academic background. Typical duties may include:
- Assisting in day-to-day airport operations, including passenger services, flight operations, and terminal management.
- Supporting the marketing team with event planning, social media updates, and promotional materials.
- Collaborating with the customer service department to ensure smooth interactions between passengers and airport staff.
- Participating in safety and security operations, learning about regulations and best practices in aviation security.
- Contributing to the development and execution of airport projects, such as infrastructure development and sustainability initiatives.
- Assisting in the coordination of logistics for airport events, conferences, or special programs.
- Performing data collection, research, and reporting for airport management and development.
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Aviation Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, or other related fields).
- Strong academic standing with a demonstrated interest in the aviation or transportation industry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous internship or work experience in customer service, operations, or business administration is a plus but not required.
- No prior aviation industry experience is necessary but enthusiasm for the industry is strongly encouraged.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
