The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is offering an exciting opportunity for students to join its Summer Internship Programme for 2025. This programme is designed to provide participants with valuable exposure to the workings of the UK justice system and public service. As an intern, you will support key departments within the MOJ, contribute to projects that impact the justice system, and develop skills that will benefit your future career in law, public administration, or policy-making.
- Assist in ongoing projects within various departments of the Ministry of Justice, such as legal policy, criminal justice, human rights, or administrative law.
- Conduct research, gather data, and analyze legal documents and case files to support policy development and legal proceedings.
- Prepare reports and briefings for senior managers and government officials.
- Support the development and delivery of government initiatives related to the justice system, criminal justice reform, and legal services.
- Participate in meetings, discussions, and project team activities to gain insight into policy decision-making processes.
- Contribute to the preparation of legal documentation, including drafting letters, policy papers, and other materials.
- Attend seminars, workshops, and training sessions to develop your understanding of the public sector and the justice system.
- Engage with stakeholders across government departments, law firms, and the public to support justice-related projects.
- Provide general administrative support as needed, including managing schedules, handling correspondence, and updating databases.
- Currently enrolled in a degree program, ideally in law, politics, criminology, or a related field. However, applicants from other disciplines with an interest in the justice system will also be considered.
- At least 2 A-levels (or equivalent) and a strong academic record.
- An interest in public service, the legal profession, or policy-making.
- No previous work experience in the justice system is required, although any voluntary work, part-time jobs, or extracurricular activities relevant to the legal field or public service will be considered advantageous.
- Previous experience in research, analysis, or administrative tasks is beneficial but not essential.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, process, and interpret information.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
- A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn from others.
- A strong interest in the justice system and public policy.
