Description

The MSHA Internship Placements Program aims to provide students with practical experience in mine safety, health administration, and regulatory compliance. Interns will work alongside MSHA professionals, contributing to projects that promote safety and health standards in the mining industry and improve workplace conditions.

Responsibilities

Interns in the MSHA Internship Placements Program will:

  • Assist with inspections and evaluations: Accompany MSHA inspectors and participate in safety evaluations of mining operations, helping to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Conduct research and data analysis: Support data collection and analysis related to mining safety trends, workplace injuries, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in safety training programs: Assist in the planning, organization, and delivery of training sessions on workplace safety and health regulations.
  • Contribute to policy development and improvement: Help develop and refine MSHA’s safety standards and policies for mining operations.
  • Attend professional development workshops: Take part in training sessions, workshops, and events to gain insights into federal safety and health standards and regulations.
Qualifications

To qualify for the MSHA Internship Placements Program, applicants must:

  • Be a current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
Experience

Previous experience in health and safety, environmental compliance, or related internships is preferred but not required. MSHA welcomes diverse candidates who bring unique perspectives and skills.
