The purpose of the U.S. Marshals Service Internship Program is to provide students with valuable, hands-on experience in a federal law enforcement environment. As a volunteer intern, you will assist with administrative and operational tasks, supporting the agency’s mission to enforce federal laws, ensure the security of the judiciary, and protect witnesses.
- Assist in administrative duties, including data entry, file management, and document preparation.
- Support law enforcement operations by assisting with research, records management, and case documentation.
- Participate in observations of court proceedings, prisoner transport, and other U.S. Marshals Service activities when authorized.
- Collaborate with staff to support ongoing investigations and field operations.
- Conduct research on relevant topics, policies, and historical cases to assist with the development of training materials.
- Attend department meetings, training sessions, and briefings to gain insight into federal law enforcement protocols and procedures.
- Provide general support to U.S. Marshals Service staff in various operational areas as needed.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in Criminal Justice, Law, Political Science, or a related field.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a background investigation.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent academic standing.
- Prior volunteer work or internship experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or public safety is an advantage but not required.
- Demonstrated interest in federal law enforcement, criminal justice, or public service.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Unique experience in a federal law enforcement setting, gaining insight into the operations of the U.S. Marshals Service.
- Exposure to a variety of law enforcement functions, including prisoner transport, judicial security, and fugitive apprehension.
- Networking opportunities with law enforcement professionals and potential mentorship from U.S. Marshals Service staff.
- Development of valuable skills in research, organization, and criminal justice.
- Academic credit may be available, depending on university requirements.
